As a local, independent, family run business located on the west coast of Cumbria we understand that reducing our carbon footprint is essential to protect our natural surroundings as well as the global impact carbon emissions have on the environment.
We have invested in Bio-mass, Solar power and an electric vehicles to help offset our carbon footprint across all of our yards.
Our Calderbridge yard operates a bio-mass plant which provides our buildings with heating and hot water. As a result the yard has no mains gas supply reducing our need for fossil fuels to zero. The plant is fuelled with bi-products produced at our roof truss manufacturing plant in Workington, utilising any waste suitable for bio-mass energy generation. Solar panels generate enough electricity to run the branch, charge our fully electric forklift and supply energy back to the national grid.
Sustainable timber has always been an integral part of our business. We only purchase timber products that are chain of custody certified from our suppliers, enabling us and our customer to trace that the origin of the product is from a sustainably managed forest.
The same as all businesses our yards produce waste. Where possible we re-use packaging products such as cardboard boxes and plastic sheeting, suitable waste timber is utilised for bio-mass energy generation and all additional waste is recycled by a local waste management company to help reduce the use of landfill sites.
We are dedicated to changing our working practices, reducing our carbon footprint, to protect our future!
